The candidate needed the commercial acumen to be credible in one of the most important sectors in the UK, but also had to feel at home in the complex world of public services.
The solution
We recommended an advertising-led campaign, largely because of the diverse nature of the prospective candidate pool. We also suggested that adverts be placed in the general recruitment sections of leading broadsheets, rather than the public sector section or the trade press, in order to appeal to candidates of the required calibre and seniority.
The benefits
The recruitment process was fast-tracked and resulted in a short-list of four candidates that contained an obvious first choice and a clear second runner. The candidate who finally moved into the position of chief executive had the influence and kudos to straddle both the public and the private sectors.
